The Carnival Stopped By Our House

Happy First Birthday to CRUZ! We had such a fun time celebrating our "baby" with a carnival themed party.

The day didn't start out well at all.  I woke up to pouring rain outside! Everything was soaked.  The bounce house company sent me a text asking if my party was cancelled.  No! I was holding out hope that it would clear up.  I admit, I was stressed about the weather but Ryan reassured me it was supposed to stop raining by 11:00.  And he thought it was hilarious watching me stress and worry about it.  Sure enough, it stopped raining and by 1:00 the sun was shining through the clouds.  It turned out to be gorgeous weather and a perfect afternoon for a backyard party.

Good thing! Because our little house can not fit that many people!

My mom made Cruz's onesie and bow tie

Our patio was the perfect place for all the food and CAKE!  I had a local baker (Olivia's Cakes) make Cruz a buttercream frosting smash cake with some fondant popcorn and tickets as decorations.

And I made the cupcakes.  With the help of my mom, my grandma and my sister we decorated them to look like cups of popcorn (cut mini marshmallows and added a spritz of yellow food mist...a stolen idea from pinterest)

It was kind of a pain to take a picture of Cruz once a month, on or around the 23rd but by the end of the year, I'm so glad I did.  The banner I made of all the monthly pictures was fun to look at and see how he has changed. The picture I took of the banner has horrible lighting... I should have taken a picture of it before the sun started to go down.

Over the past few days while we were preparing for the party, Cruz took a few steps on his own!!  He is up to 4 in a row, so still not considering walking yet but he is so close.  He had fun walking while holding hands though.

I think he could tell he was the star of the party.  He was hammin' it up for the camera and of course sticking that tongue out.  I think my next blog post is going to be just tongue pictures of Cruz from the past year.  Like a Tongue Montage, I'm sure I would have plenty to choose from!

Cruz and Daddy

Cruz and Auntie Candice
We had nachos, frito boats, hot dogs and fresh fruit.  This is the only picture I took of the food tables. So ya, we had fruit punch too oh and jalapenos.

We also had freshly popped popcorn

Everyone ate and the kids bounced on the bounce house and got their face painted. Look at the weather, it cleared up just in time

Cruz enjoyed his strawberries and hot dog

The lady that I had for the face painting was fabulous! The kids' faces were awesome and they did such a great job sitting still for her.

Some of the girls...

Some of the boys... (of course Jacob had to have Olaf!)

Vincent, Landen, Ethan, Cruz and Jacob...a.k.a "The Handsome Holguin Boys"

I rarely saw my kids the entire party, they were up on the bounce house the entire time.  Cruz tried it out with Grammie before the party started

My brother-in-law and sister were making balloon animals for the kiddos

And of course at every party there are

and CAKE!...

Landen blew out Cruz's candle for him.

I'd say he LOVED it!

It was so much fun seeing all the kids (and even adults) having a great time.  Cruz was a trooper! He looked like he loved every minute of the party too.

Our party guests left with a bag of delicious cotton candy I ordered online.  Worth every penny.  So yummy!

After the guests left.  Vincent and Landen and cousin Ethan played in the bounce house until the guys came to pick it up.  They were in boy heaven!

Thank you to all who came and those who couldn't come but sent there birthday wishes.  We are so blessed to have so many friends and family who love us and our kids.

Happy Birthday Cruzie Boy!!

Why are they still wearing Pull Ups?

Vincent and Landen are 4 years old and still wearing pull ups at night....and still waking up with pee in their pull ups in the morning.  I've talked to some people (including my pediatrician) that say it is completely normal, every child's bladder is different, give them time and wait until they start waking up dry consistently before bothering with putting them in underwear.  Then I hear the opposite from other moms saying not to put them in pull ups at all, they should be able to go all night by now.  I was left wondering, can they really not go all night without peeing or are they peeing in the pull up out of convenience.  No more pull ups would really save us some money! But I don't want to push them if they aren't ready OR do umpteen loads of bedding laundry.  So the past two nights I have had them in underwear and have taken them to go pee when I go to bed at 11:00 (about 3 hours after their bedtime) and then I set the alarm around 3:00 to take them again.  Both mornings they have woken up dry.  I don't know how long I will have to be getting them up in the middle of the night but for now I'm going to try it.  It's worth a shot.  I also made this chore chart for them that includes a "no pee in underwear" line so they can get rewarded for dry mornings.

Before you think I have a ton of time on my hands to create that chart, think again. (that is so not the case.) It was a free download from ishouldbemoppingthefloor.com.  I just added the words and pictures. So far it is a hit!   I think I can ask a million moms, what should I do? Am I doing the right thing? But ultimately I have to do what works for our family.  And right now, this is what we are doing to try and get these 4 year olds night time potty trained. (this could totally change in a couple weeks when I get tired of getting up in the middle of the night, especially if I'm not seeing some improvement.)

On a funner note! (if that's even a word)

....This was our Easter....

Ryan had to work but we still had a fun and busy day.

Church in the morning...

Then to my in-laws for some yummy food and fun with cousin Ethan.  They live out in the country, a.k.a. a little boy's dream.  They had fun jumping on the trampoline

Eating yummy food

....and yummy cupcakes with Auntie Candy

They had an Easter egg hunt and Ethan found the GOLDEN egg.

They were more concerned with opening each egg as they found them, rather than trying to collect as many as they could first.  They are still egg hunt rookies.

Then we headed to my parents for another egg hunt and a ham dinner.

To say they had a few eggs is an understatement!

At one point after dinner, I found this little boy curled up under a blanket reading one of the books in Grammie and Grandpas collection.  He just looked so peaceful and content, it made my heart happy.

I sure did miss my husband throughout the day.  But being with family all day, and especially these 4 little boys made it a great Easter! I'm so grateful for the sacrifice the Lord made for me and my family. He has risen! He has risen indeed!
