6 Months

Our baby Jacob, How is it that you are already half of a year old???  I brought you to your 6 month well-baby check up today and every item of clothing you were wearing was size 12 months!
Your Stats:
Height: 28.75 inches
Weight: 20 pounds 15 ounces

(Just to compare to your brothers at 6 mo. V= 18 pounds 9 ounces 27.5 inches L= 15 pounds 8 ounces 26 inches)

I think you are off the charts in adorableness, cuteness, and all-around sweetness but I am your mommy so I have the right to be a little bias.

As of last week you are wearing a size 4 diaper! The same size as your older brother Landen. You are wearing some 9 month clothes but you're starting to get into some 12 month clothes.

In the last couple of months you have started eating food.
For breakfast at 7:00 you have oatmeal and a fruit and finish with a 6 oz. bottle.
For lunch at noon you have a yogurt or fruit and a 5 oz. bottle.
You have another 5 oz bottle around 4:00
For dinner at 6:30 you have a couple mum mums, a veggie with some rice cereal and a 6 oz. bottle.

Your favorite fruit is apple and your favorite veggie is squash but you don't turn any of the others away so I don't think there are any you don't like.

I was very prepared to talk about what a horrible sleeper you are.  You would take three 50 minute naps during the day. Sometimes you would sleep for two hours and surprise us but that was very uncommon and unpredictable. At 4 months you were doing great with sleeping straight through the night until the early morning (5ish) where we would move you to the swing to get a couple more hours of sleep out of you. And then you REGRESSED!! With you being sick most of December and the first part of January your sleep habits got worse!! It was horrible :( you couldn't breath through your nose. You would be up one sometimes two other times during the night for your pacifier and then we would still need to move you to the swing in the morning. (I was getting worried about that swing! It was struggling to swing you!) THEN Grammie babysat you for a whole day and she said you took TWO 2-hour naps for her. I thought wow! he never does that for me. AND THAT VERY NIGHT....you slept through the night...like all the way through....not getting up for your pacifier and not moving to the swing! (I guess its true...sleep begets sleep) You woke up at 6:50 cooing in your crib ready for breakfast! I texted Grammie that morning and wanted to know her secret!!! Now you are taking two naps from 10:00-12:00 and 2:00-4:00 and going to bed at 8:00 and you are sleeping through the night! No more swing! In fact I think we will be packing up the swings here this week. We are so happy you are sleeping better these days!

You are rolling and squirming everywhere! You got up on all fours today rocking back and forth for the first time! You never stay in one place! You know how to wiggle yourself to what ever toy you set your eyes on.

You are starting to crack up at your brothers and they are realizing that you are laughing at them so they purposefully keep doing whatever it was that was making you laugh. (I love watching you and the boys interact)
Your older brothers LOVE you! They want to help with everything. They give you kisses all the time and LOVE to go get you after your nap. Sometimes they run into your room and climb on the side of your crib, this usually startles you and then you get a huge smile on your face. But they do, however, have a hard time sharing their toys with you, especially Vincent...we will have to work on that. (He has a hard time sharing with Landen too, so don't let your feelings be too hurt about it)

You love crossing your ankles. They are crossed in the high chair, on the changing table, when you're laying on the floor, you pretty much have them crossed all the time.
You can sit up now, but not for long periods of time. If I place the boppy behind you, you last a little bit longer before toppling over.

You can hold your own bottle as long as you are laying down or reclined in your high chair. And you get super excited when you see that bottle coming!
You LOVE bath time
You HATE your nose being wipe
You LOVE your lovies (you have two of them)
You HATE being left alone in a room
You LOVE your jumparoo
Your favorite toy is the sophie giraffe

You scream so loud (a happy scream) when we toss you up in the air (not really toss because we never actually let go of you) You love it.

I love your snuggles into my shoulder. You love to nuzzle your face, especially when you're tired.

We call you Jakers, TJ (tank junior), and baby Jacob. We love you so much! Your beautiful happy blue eyes are such a joy to look at.  We are so grateful for you and the blessing God has given us. We are so happy you are you! We couldn't have asked for a happier baby!

p.s. You still spit up a ridiculous amount...I would appreciate it if that stopped...but it has improved a little now that you are eating food and less formula.

Knotts Berry Farm

This year we took advantage of the discount Knott's Berry Farm offers to fire personnel.  Ryan and I got in free and so did the boys because of their age. Ryan's brother, James, went with us and only had to pay $19!
I was way beyond excited to take the boys to an amusement park! We left at 6:30 a.m. Which you would think would be early enough, but after a stop for breakfast and stupid, dreadful, I don't know how people can live in L.A. traffic we didn't arrive at the park until 11:30.  It was hot! 85 degrees in January! I was grateful I grabbed a pair of shorts before we left.
Our first ride was the little kid train. We thought that would be a good starter ride. DI-SAS-TER! Landen was a whining crying mess.  He was spooked from all the people and the loud roller coaster going right above the train tracks. I'm saying to myself why oh why did we think this was going to be fun? PLEASE don't tell me this is how he is going to be ALL day! At least we all had a laugh because while Landen is crying on the train, Vincent is pointing straight at him and saying "happened?? happened? crying! He crying!" Leave it to the older brother to embarrass the younger sibling.
By this time it is after 12 so we thought we would get some lunch (which on a side note....hello?!?! 15 dollars for a slice of pizza and a drink!?! It should be illegal to take advantage of the very people who PAID to get into the park. Well, we didn't pay but still that's beside the point.) On our way to finding a place to eat I spotted the carrousel. So we thought, hey it couldn't be any worse than our train ride right?! Might as well try it. Halleluia! They loved it!

(BTW. Some of the pictures on this post are from my iphone so they are not the clearest)

(Oh and another mommy failure to go in the books....we got the kids out of their beds and put them straight into the car at 6:30 when we left. And I forgot to pack hair gel!! So their hair was not done for the day. No biggie, we wouldn't be seeing anyone we knew BUT oh ya, people WILL see the pictures. So don't pay any attention to their scraggly head of hair)

Vincent is still AMAZED at the "ooooo...whites!" or
sometimes lights are called "lava-las"

Yay! We got a smile!
After we ate our ridiculously high priced lunch, I reclined the stroller seats and busted out the blankets and lovies and went for a little stroll around the park.  Ryan and James went and stood in line for an adult ride. For almost two hours the boys took a much needed nap in the stroller!

Do they look like twins?!?
While I was strolling my sleeping babes, I saw this sign and immediately missed my little Jakers who we left at home with my parents for the day.

For this orange ride with the Jacob Mining Co. sign, Ryan and James got the back row of seats. The ride went right above me so I was able to get a picture of them going overhead.

James took over and watched the sleeping boys while Ryan and I went on the supreme scream ride. Which is a free fall ride and it was CRAZY high! I will admit, I screamed during the entire drop.

As the boys were just waking up, Ryan and James wanted to get on one more adult ride before we headed back to the kiddie section. So while they waited in line I got the boys a snack and changed their diapers. And then we waited at the exit of that ride. The boys were getting antsy so I let them run around but I was kind of nervous about having 2 loose toddlers and only 1 of me where there were a ton of people. But they did great! And stayed in the area I told them they could be.
They were yelling "daddy! daddy!" at the people waiting in line

Ryan and James in the front two seats
The ride pulled them up backwards first
After that ride we went to find some rides that the boys could go on.

Some of them had a height requirement that they didn't pass BUT we did find one ride that they could go on all by themselves! It was totally weird strapping them into this little cart and leaving the area! They had to sit there until all the other kids were strapped in and ready to go before the ride started.

They LOVED this ride! They cried when it was over and ended up going on it 5 times. And at one point, since there wasn't a line waiting for that ride we could just leave them on it. They sat there patiently waiting for it to start up again. After three rides in a row I thought they should get off because I didn't want to see their lunch again.
I will post a video of it at the end of the blog. Not sure the video will work though but worth a try.

The one other ride we went on was a balloon ride. We sat in hot air balloon baskets and went around in a circle.  But seriously the entire time we were waiting in line for the balloon ride, they were asking to go back to the other ride they loved so much.

Vincent and I were in one hot air balloon

Landen and Ryan were in a hot air balloon together
(*I was excited this picture turned out so well!*)
As we decided to head out of the park and call it a day I saw a painted Snoopy. I was telling Ryan that I was bummed we didn't see snoopy and get a picture of the boys with him. So we had the boys stand next to the painted snoopy. Landen was petting the "oggie"

BUT THEN! when we were almost to the entrance, there was Snoopy!! We stood in the short line to get our picture taken with him. And....yep!...Landen thinks the same thing about snoopy as he did Santa Claus! He faaa-reaked out!

but calmed down for a family pic.

James bought the boys a stuffed snoopy who was holding his birdie buddy Woodstock. They loved their "oggie"!

After a quick stop for dinner and a change into pajamas we were on our way home again. The boys knocked out in the car after such a fun-filled day!

I'm so glad we went. And I hope we have many opportunities to do this again in years to come.

Here is a video of the boys on their favorite ride. I hope it works so you're able to see it! (one is a video from my phone and one from my camera. I'm not sure which one will work, if any at all.)

Christmas In Review

Last year at this time we were just getting back from a family trip to Wyoming! It was such a nice time being together with everyone, that it made this year feel like there was something missing, because there was! My brother and his family were not here for Christmas, nor were we able to go see them.  They were definately missed! I'm writing our Christmas in Review so they can feel like they were with us a little over the holiday season. (warning: this is picture overload!) Jess, Heather and Ky...we miss you guys!

Before I start let me just mention TWO things I learned this Christmas.
One: almost-two-year olds hate to take pictures! They can't sit still, smile and look at the camera all at the same time. Why do we even attempt it???? I don't know.
Two: I am HORRIBLE at taking pictures during family gatherings :( I need to make more of an effort at this. May be my new years resolution.

We had 5 Christmas gatherings this year.

1. (weekend before Christmas) We drove to Pomona to celebrate with my mom's side.  The car ride was fabulous!! I was SHOCKED. Two toddlers and a baby....5 hours with one stop for dinner... and NO TEARS! As G. Rancic would say: Amaze-balls! I'm very thankful for naps and portable DVD players. (unfortunately my sister and her husband couldn't make it)

We love staying at GG and Gpa's house.

2. Christmas Eve (just our little family of 5...and my parents came over for a little bit since they didn't have anything planned that night)

We got the boys three things: 1) A used Melissa and Doug wooden fruit set (like they are really going to know the difference between new and used) 2) A Mr. Potato head set and 3) Nabi Tablets (they are like a kid friendly ipad)....Jacob didn't get anything from us....next year kiddo, I promise!

Jacob wore the same outfit the boys wore last year on Christmas Eve when they were 10 months old. And it fit Jacob tighter than it did the boys!!

3. Christmas Day. I unfortunately had to work but after work I joined Ryan and the boys at his parents house for a yummy tamale lunch.  We opened gifts and hung out. Again....I'm horrible at taking pictures!!  The only picture I have is this picture of the boys in their matching "A-Mouse" (mickey mouse) PJs sitting in their new recliners from my in-laws! Yes, even Jacob has his own chair.

4. (weekend after Christmas) Christmas with my side.  We attempted family pictures and failed. I got this cute one of my mom showing the boys some ornaments.  We Skyped my brother's family and opened gifts, played some basketball outside, and played some games.

5. (weekend after New Years) Christmas with my Dad's side. My dad and his siblings rotate hosting Christmas and this year was his turn so all of the family in southern California made the trip north. We had such a fun weekend! I have the most pictures for this celebration due to the help of my cousin who took over the camera for part of the day and started snapping some pics. (Thank you Chelsey!)

I've come to the conclusion that Landen will ALWAYS have a bruise somewhere on his face
My cousins, Morgan and Chandler LOVED handing out gifts. They gave the boys these sweet monkeys. (again...toddlers and pictures don't mix. Vincent and Landen are happy kids I promise! just not when you tell them to "look over here and smile")

And they gave Jacob his very first basketball and my cousin's twins their first baseball and soccerball. OF COURSE we had to get pictures of the babies. You should have heard us all making noises trying to get all three babies to look in one direction. Can you tell they are little bit frightened from all the commotion?

Morgan and Chandler were excellent baby entertainers!! Vincent and Landen are still talking about Morgan and "andler". They can't quite get the 'Ch' sound out yet.

My aunt made my Grandmas famous potato salad that my grandma had gotten from her Mother-in-law.  My dad and uncle practically ate it 5 minutes.  Since I don't like potato salad, I will take their word for it that it is delicious.

My dad and his brother Frank

In the afternoon we all went outside for a game of soccer! The highlight of the day! It was beautiful weather and the boys had a great time! Both young and old got in on the action. Even Jacob was out there cheering us on and my sisters fur-baby Roxy. (I must admit I was kind of sore the next day. Used a whole lot of muscles that day that hadn't been used for awhile)

Here is the whole fam. (minus a few people that couldn't make it to Visalia this year)

The very next day Vincent and Landen went to their very first "friend birthday party". It was at a place that had a huge blow up slide. With a little bit of coercing and help up the steps, Landen went down the big slide! His face shows total fear going down, but once he got to the bottom and realized he was okay it was "ya!! uudd job!" and he did it again!  I had two emotions at that moment. I was SO PROUD of him for being so brave and and that same time, I wished I was a kid again so I could go down the slide with him. I guess we are at that point in our lives where we have to live vicariously through our children!

This is as far up as Vincent would go
Total Fear!

I love this face!
