Fall Happenings

This month we had some visitors from down south. My Aunt and Uncle and cousins came up to meet the newest member of the family. It was so great just hanging out at the house for the day, walking to the park and playing in our backyard.  Morgan and Chandler gave the boys some hand-me-down toys and this awesome little table and chairs that I know the boys will just love using! We tried getting pictures. Decent pictures. You where everyone is at least looking in the general direction of the camera. Almost impossible with two 20 month olds! These were the best:

SIDE NOTE: How is it that in just 6 years these girls grew up so fast!!

September 2006

Jacob wore his outfit we got in the mail from my cousin Anneke who lives in Holland.  It was so sweet of her and Eddy to send a gift.

Jacob is loving his little play mat these days. Which has to be inside the pack-n-play otherwise Vincent and Landen think it is their play mat and poor Jacob gets trampled over.

My grandparents stopped by on their way up north. Of course we take pictures and then Vincent and Landen want to see.

This sweet face is my view while I cook dinner these days. Jacob is seriously such a happy baby this past month. (His first 8 weeks of life not so much) Now he is all smiles and loves to hang out where ever I put him. This bouncer on the kitchen counter is one of the favorite hang out spots.

We are starting to learn how to use utensils. They usually use a smaller plastic spoon for things. But sphaghetti is spaghetti. It's going to make a mess no matter what utensil they use...which ended up being their hands 90% of the time.  We put down a plastic table cloth on the floor and let them have at it. One of the rare occasions that is was okay to play with their food (After they were done I carried them straight to the bathtub!)

We've got the pumpkin patch coming up and of course halloween. Some more fun to post about before the month is over :)

Big Boy Accomplishments!

First of all....where did this kid come from?! He's not looking like me too much these days and he sure doesn't look like Ryan. BUT he is oh so cute!

 Accomplishment #1

No more pacifiers for Vincent and Landen!

I personally don't think it looks right for toddlers to be walking around with a pacifier in their mouth. Especially if they have to pop it out to talk to you and then pop it back in. But to each their own, some moms see nothing wrong with it and that's okay too!  I was thinking about taking them away before Jacob's arrival but thought it might be too much "new" all at the same time. I knew I wanted it done before they were 2.

Ever since we moved them into their Big Boy room in June (and their cribs no longer had a bumper on) they would wake up in the middle of the night crying for their pacifier (a.k.a chupi) because it had fallen out of the crib. This wouldn't be every night or one particular kid but between the two of them I was getting up 3 to 4 times a week in the middle of the night to get them their chupi.  One night I heard Vincent crying around 4:00 a.m. so I go in the room and I'm feeling around under the crib for his chupi. I kept the light off because I didn't want to wake Landen.  As I'm feeling around I hear this little voice say: "BOO!" I look up and see Vincent laying in his crib looking out the slats at me. He sees me look up and he says "BOO!" again.  REALLY?! Really kid? I did not come in the room at 4 in the morning to play peak-a-boo!! I told Ryan that day....that's it! no more pacifiers!

A few of my friends have had success at eliminating the pacifier by cutting the tip off and telling their child it was broken. A week ago friday night I cut the tips off. They both looked at them kind of

funny. I told them it was broken and that they could hold them while they slept if they wanted. They both liked that idea. Vincent couldn't care less that it was broken. Landen had a MUCH harder time. I let him cry for 5 or so minutes and went back in to calm him down and he held up the chupi and with these sad teary eyes he pleaded with me "pweeess! pweeess!" I almost cried right then and there! But I knew there was no going back! It has been a little over a week and they are doing great! After the first few days I hid the chupis and they no longer held them while they slept. After about 5 days, Landen stopped asking for it.  I now give Landen a small plastic book to read in bed and that seems to help distract him from the fact that he no longer has his chupi.  It is so nice not having to get up in the middle of the night for them anymore! And I'm so glad it was an easy transition!

Accomplishment #2

Jacob is sleeping through the night!

I finally figured this boy out! I have his feeding schedule during the day to include 6 bottles and that seems to make him happy. He has gone from 8:45 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. with out needing a bottle for 5 days straight. So I'm thinking it's safe to say he's sleeping through the night (with the exception of moving to the swing at some point during the night) I choose to move him to the swing when he stirs awake, rather than patting or rocking him back to sleep. Or feeding him a bottle to soothe him back to sleep. I'm confident he will eventually stop moving to the swing, some may say its a bad habit but that's what I'm choosing to do :) It takes me two minutes to get him and strap him into the swing and then it's back to bed I go. We (Jacob and I) are much much happier these days!! I'm getting a full nights sleep and he's starting to coo and smile sooooo much! He really is a happy baby.

After he slept through the night for the first time! I was so Happy :)

Accomplishment #3

Ryan teaches the boys how to mow the lawn

They won't be able to do it on their own for a little while longer but Ryan wanted to start them young!

and what was Jacob doing while his brothers were hard at work?

 and....Accomplishment #4

The A's made it to the playoffs! (I know we didn't have anything to do with it) But Ryan was pretty excited they did so well.  We went to a game last weekend for our anniversary (6 years) My mom and dad babysat all 3 boys ALL day! It was the longest I had ever been away from them but It was so fun going to a game just the two of us.  The A's probably won't make it past the series with Detroit but Ryan and I are having fun watching the games and so are Vincent and Landen! Go A's!
